DCHS IBPO PRINCETON REVIEW FREE ACT/SAT/PSAT PRACTICE TEST DAY – SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH, 2023

The 2023 Spring Princeton Review Practice Tests will be held in-person on Saturday, February 4th!
 
The Princeton Review offers FREE OF CHARGE ACT, SAT, and P-SAT practice test. The Practice Tests are open to ALL students from ALL grades.

For the first time, this year students will take the test on-line at the designated test room at Douglas County High School. Students will need to bring a laptop to the school to take the test. If for any reason a student does not have access to a computer/laptop on the test day, the IBPO will furnish a test package to take the test manually. 

Since this will be an on-line test, students will be able to know their scores immediately after they conclude their test, followed up with a report with a summary of their strengths and areas of focus, as well as a question-by-question analysis that contains student answers vs. the correct answers.

Date: Saturday, February 4th, 2023

Check in: 8:15 am

Testing Starts: 9:00 am

Testing Finishes: Approximately 12:30 pm

Student Preparation

The students must have access to a laptop/computer device with internet access and a calculator. In addition, it is recommended to have scrap paper and pencil handy to do problem solving prior to input answers on the on-line test.

Class of 2024 Extended Essay

The Douglas County High School (DCHS) International Baccalaureate Parent Organization (IBPO) is once again proud to support the Extended Essay Camp

The Extended Essay is part of the requirements for all candidates for an IB Diploma. Under the IB Extended Essay curriculum , the students’ grade will be based on the final Extended Essay draft and on the process they followed to produce it. This grade will be reflected in the TOK class final grade.

EXTENDED ESSAY TOPICS

– Developing an overall essay question and sub-components
– Components and structure of the essay
– IBO guidelines for various essay subject areas and grading rubrics
– Research strategies, selection and analyses of valid sources
– Development of the essay outline
– Advice on avoiding common essay mistakes
– One-on-one consultations with students

Under the IB Extended Essay curriculum , the students’ grade will be based on the final Extended Essay draft and on the process they followed to produce it.

The EE Camp Dates are:

1st EE Camp
Date: Saturday, January 28th
Venue: DCHS Library
Time: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Snacks will be provided

2nd EE Camp
Date: Friday, February 3rd
Venue: Auraria Library (UC Denver Campus – Downtown Denver)
Time: Times will be announced closer to the date. It will be a full day within the school day.
Transportation: Students will meet at the Lincoln Light Rail Station and travel to Auraria Campus. Return will be by Light Rail as well.

Venue: DCHS Library
Time: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

DCHS IBPO: 2022 FALL ACT/SAT/PSAT ON-LINE PRACTICE TEST DAY

The much anticipated Princeton Review Fall Practice Tests will be held on-line on Saturday, October 1st.
 
The Princeton Review offers FREE OF CHARGE ACT, SAT, and P-SAT practice test. Since it is an on-line test, students can take this test at any time after 9:00 am on Saturday, October 1st. The Practice Tests are open to ALL students from ALL grades.

Students will be able to know their scores immediately after they conclude their test, followed up with a report with a summary of their strengths and areas of focus, as well as a question-by-question analysis that contains student answers vs. the correct answers.

To help students select which test to take, the Princeton Review Office has provided us with the following descriptions of the three tests that will be offered:

  •  ACT:  This is a full-length ACT test written by The Princeton Review. The test is incredibly reflective of what students can expect to experience when taking an official ACT test, and all students will receive an Individual Score Report breaking down their performance.
  •  SAT:  This is a full-length SAT test written by The Princeton Review, and is reflective of the changes made to the SAT in March of 2016. The test mirrors what students can expect to experience when taking an official SAT test, and all students will receive an Individual Score Report breaking down their performance.
  •  P- SAT: This test is written by The Princeton Review, and it is the test that Sophomores and Juniors take to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. All students will receive an Individual Score Report breaking down their performance, which includes a summary of their strengths and areas of focus.

Registration for the Fall Princeton Review Practice Tests is now open. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Princeton Review will offer FREE VIRTUAL PRACTICE TESTS. The Practice Tests are open to ALL students from All grades.

EXTENDED ESSAY SESSIONS AND DATES

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the EE Camp is taking a modified format and approach than previous years. Field trips are canceled, and the EE session will be held at DCHS Library. The EE Coordinators – Mrs. Kimberly Clever, Mrs. Theresa Hemming, and Mr. Kelse Risner – have developed a plan to best serve the EE Class of 2023. We all understand our students are very much overwhelmed and the adjustment back to school has not been easy.

Thus, the EE Camp will be held in three evening sessions on Wednesdays when students would normally have TOK. We trust that our students will not feel that this is more work to do. Having these sessions on Wednesdays will not take time from TOK as the students will be able to meet the required number of days. The three sessions have been scheduled as follows:

1st SESSION: Camp #1
Wednesday, January 5th, 2022
Time: 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm

2nd SESSION: Camp #2
Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022
Time: 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm

3rd SESSION: Camp #3
Wednesday, May 11th, 2022

IB STUDENTS’ EXTENDED ESSAYS ARE DUE IN THE FALL OF THEIR SENIOR YEAR (November 2022)

Completing the Extended Essay (EE) takes a significant time commitment from students for planning, research, and writing to be successful. This Workshop enables students to begin focusing their efforts early in the summer, and to turn in a quality first draft to their EE advisor soon after school starts in the fall.

Instructors for the workshop are Ms. Kim Clever, Ms. Theresa Hemming, and Mr. Kelse Risner, IB Extended Essay Coordinators at DCHS. During the workshop they will describe the Extended Essay process, answer questions, provide support for narrowing research questions and guide student research.
