    The current time line for the class of 2014 on Extended Essay deadlines is:
    • Beginning of January – Informational meeting during TOK to cover general instructions and assessment criteria
    • January 31, 2014 – Have your subject and advisor chosen
    • Mid February – After school advisor/advisee “getting started” meeting
    • March through May – Meet with your advisor to discuss norms and expectations; begin formulating a thesis or question for your extended essay
    • June 2-5, 2014 – Extended Essay Writing Seminar at CU Denver - Auraria campus
    • October 1, 2014 – Rough draft to advisor
    • October 31, 2014 – Hand in two typed copies of your completed Extended Essay (this date is NOT suggested; it is set in stone)

    Extended Essay Guide and Rubric
      Use this guide and rubric from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) when planning and composing your Extended Essay.  This includes all IB subjects, however you may only choose subject from the official DCHS IB approved list.
       
     

    Style guides:
        MLA Style Guide.
        APA Style Guide.

     

     

     

    Also recommended:
    The Elements of Style by Strunk, White and Angell (4th Ed.) ISBN 0205313426. This is a handy reference book that can be used through high school and college. Originally written by an English professor at Cornell, it give helpful, concise information on writing for different purposes, grammar, and general writing style.

    Extended Essay Summer Workshop

    Juniors - 2014 Summer Extended Essay Workshop

    Our popular Extended Essay Workshop returns! 

    The workshop is scheduled for June 2-5 2014 at the Auraria Library on the CU Denver campus. The session is led by our DCHS essay coordinators, Mrs. Clever, Mr. Umbach & Mrs. Yates, with support from additional DCHS teachers as subject matter experts as needed based on essay topics chosen.

    Students have access to CU's extensive library facilities and receive guidance on a variety of Extended Essay requirements such as topic research, preparing their essay outline and much more. The expectation of this workshop is that participating students come to this session with their defined research question. Mrs. Clever will hold a session in April or May, prior to a TOK class, to discuss the research question process.
